FENCING 
Saber Title Defended: Bob Cottingham of Columbia, an all-American from West 
Orange, N.J., won seven bouts yesterday to successfully defend his saber title 
in the Intercollegiate Fencing Association individual championships at 
Columbia's Levien Gymnasium. Ivan Fernandez-Madrid, a Columbia junior, earned a 
gold medal in foil with seven victories. James O'Neill of Harvard, who won a 
fence-off among Jon Normile of Columbia and Charles Melcher of Yale, captured 
the epee crown.
